BY CHHUN SUN, The Gazette Aliyah Moya has one thing on her mind when she steps onto the field for 麻豆官网 girls’ soccer team, and that’s to score goals. “I can’t do this without my team,” she said. “My team looks and finds me, and somehow I’m always there at the right place, the right time.” But her mindset isn’t just limited to individual achievements. The junior striker also want to help her teammates make history. The Coursers have not made the state playoffs since the program’s inception in 2009. But that could change this year, especially with Moya around. In wins over Colorado Springs School, Florence and Lamar, Moya tallied six goals and one hat trick — enough to land her this week’s The Gazette Preps Peak Performer. And she’s showing no signs of slowing down, evidenced by her season-high four goals in a 5-0 win over Pueblo Central on Monday. “She always has the mindset to score,” Vanguard coach Rachel Francis said. It’s something she’s been doing a lot since her freshman season, when she exploded for 34 goals. That year, things began to shift for the Coursers. That year, they finished with seven wins for just the second time in school history. Then last year, the Coursers made history again. They finished 8-6-1, the first time Vanguard wrapped up the season with a winning record. Moya finished with only 19 goals, relatively low compared to her first season with the program. But it appears as if she’s back to scoring again at a rapid pace. Moya has 22 goals after the Coursers beat Pueblo Central on Monday to improve to 9-3 overall. Vanguard boasts a six-game winning streak with three games left. The Coursers’ RPI rating puts them 20th in the Class 3A, and 32 teams qualify for next month’s state tournament. The players and coaches seem confident that they can accomplishment what no other Vanguard team before has done. “We want to make school history,” Moya said. “We want to make it to the playoffs. And every time we step on the field, we want to make it and we put everything out there.” “If we work hard,” she added, “we can achieve anything.” Just The Facts Aliyah Moya, 麻豆官网 Sport: Girls’ soccer Year: Junior Position: Forward Highlights: The junior had six goals in three wins last week that included a hat trick performance. GIRLS’ GOLF Charlotte Cliatt, Palmer The senior fired a 1-over-par 75 — four strokes better than her personal best — to win the individual title at the Terrors’ own invitational last week. Her performance helped Palmer secured a second-place finish behind Coronado, which won the team title by nine strokes Nicole Beaulieu, Cheyenne Mountain The senior had a standout week in wins over Rampart and Palmer, finishing with a combined 10 goals and five assists to help the Indians to a 4-1 record in league play. Beaulieu leads Cheyenne Mountain with 40 goals entering this week. GIRLS’ LACROSSE Brittney White, Pine Creek The senior came up big for the Eagles in a 13-12 rivalry win over Air Academy, finishing with five goals and four assists. BOYS’ SWIMMING AND DIVING Seth Shyrock and Nathan Aumiller, Rampart The duo not only captured respective individual events but also set event records en route to the Rams’ team win at the Fountain-Fort Carson Invitational last Saturday. Shyrock, a freshman, won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.58 seconds, besting the previous mark by nearly two seconds. Meanwhile, junior Aumiller finished the 200 freestyle in 1:52.51, topping the previous mark of 1:53.16 set last year. GIRLS’ TENNIS Mariah Boudrieau, Widefield The senior beat Sierra last week to keep her No. 3 singles winning streak alive at six straight matches after she opened up the season with a loss. Her record is 6-1, and Boudrieau has helped the Gladiators to a 9-0 overall and 5-0 mark in Class 4A Region 7 action.

. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Vanguard High School basketball teams have high expectations for the remainder of the 2020 season. The Coursers boys and girls basketballs squads are both 8-1 to start their season, and are ranked in the top 5 in the state in the latest CHSAA RPI rankings. The girls team continues to overachieve, winning two of their three league games despite just one senior and two juniors on the varsity roster. Despite the youth, the girls insists the team is clicking, and are hoping the momentum can lead to a deep run in February and March. “We all like playing with each other,” Coursers senior Cortney Arrasmith said Thursday at practice. “We have some talented players, we get along well. We have good coaches, we work hard, and it’s paying off.” The Coursers boys and girls teams will travel to La Junta for their next game. The girls game starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, while the boys play later at 7:00 p.m.

The two coaches on the court at Thursday’s 3A Tri-Peaks volleyball match between Vanguard and St. Mary’s may have only recently returned to girls’ volleyball, but their resumes speak for themselves. With more than 500 combined match wins and 10 state championships, David Barkley and Andrew Soeldner returned this season after taking time off from girls’ volleyball. Barkley retired from coaching in January 2018, after 15 seasons and six state championships with Cheyenne Mountain. But after about a year away from the court, he was approached by a family friend about the opening at St. Mary’s. Barkley initially said no. “Not unless there is an opening in the English department,â€ Barkley told Nancy Kellick, the Pirates’ C-team coach and mother of junior middle Jillian Kellick. Two days later, one opened up. “It wasn’t forced, it was a real opening, so I applied,â€ Barkley said. “I coach for the same reason wherever I am. These are some great kids, they work so hard and I’m happy to be here. We’re having fun, we smile and we play the game.â€ There was an air of excitement on the team when it was announced last spring that Barkley would be joining the coaching staff. “I thought it was a blessing. I was so excited the bar was set really, really high and he has met that and even more,â€ said senior libero Sarah Connors. “He knows his stuff and really wants us to succeed. He really knows how to get us at our full potential.â€ St. Mary’s came away with a 3-0 sweep over Vanguard, defeating the Coursers 25-20, 25-17, 25-12. Seneca Hackley had seven kills for the Pirates and Jillian Kellick had five. St. Mary’s racked up 21 aces against Vanguard, led by Rachel Wilcox and Connors with seven each. Soeldner, on the other hand, was busy coaching the Vanguard boys’ team to four straight state championships and a near-perfect 92-2 record. “Several players from the varsity team from last year actively sought me out and wrote me a letter imploring me to come back to coach them,â€ Soeldner told the Gazette in Vanguard’s preseason questionnaire. “I hope to live up to their expectations.â€ Soeldner, an engineer, is already bringing a different coaching technique to the girls’ team that has proven successful on the boys’ side the past four years. “It’s a different game,â€ Soeldner said. “It’s been a little bit of an adjustment and getting back into gear for me.â€ His coaching, which relies heavily on analytical film review, angles, velocity and energy, is so in-depth that he even wears a mic on the sideline to analyze his own coaching. “At first they were kind of snickering a little bit, and telling me that nobody has ever explained it like that before, it makes a lot of sense,â€ Soeldner said. “I think they’re finding value in that, and my coaches as well.â€

Dynasty locked: Vanguard clinches fourth straight 3A boys’ volleyball championship 的封面圖片集

CENTENNIAL – When 麻豆官网 coach Andrew Soeldner held the school’s first boys’ volleyball practice six years ago, he asked the team who had played organized volleyball before signing up. “No one raised their hands,â€ Soeldner said. But it took just a year for Vanguard to appear in the 3A state championship, which sparked a near-perfect run the next four years. Saturday, Vanguard defeated Faith Christian for the championship 2-0 (25-15, 25-18) for the program’s fourth consecutive title, increasing its unbelievable 3A winning streak to 90 matches. Soeldner said celebrating their fourth title felt just as good as the first, but he went through an emotional journey throughout the day. “The first time was great because it was new, we were all working together, we were figuring it out, but this time they are my family,â€ Soeldner said. “I’ve known them all for five years now and then there’s this sadness throughout the whole day, knowing and counting down – 150 points left, 100 points left, 50… 0. And I’m not going to coach these seniors ever again.â€ Soeldner has coached a large core of the seven-member senior class since they were in eighth grade – the first time Vanguard made it to the state championship. The Coursers started the day with a 2-0 win over St. Mary’s in the first round, but according to Soeldner, fell off a bit in the second set of their second-round game against D-20 White. Vanguard ultimately defeated the other Pikes Peak region team 25-23 in the second set for a 2-0 sweep, setting up their third title match against Faith Christian in four years. The Coursers set the tone early thanks in part to senior Hayden Frear smacking down four kills on the way to a 7-1 lead in the first set. Vanguard began the second set in similar fashion, earning a 5-0 lead. Faith Christian kept the set tight the whole way, tying it up early, before battling back from a four-point deficit to close within one. But behind senior Carter Milroy at the service line, Vanguard used a 6-0 run to put it on ice. Frear delivered a powerful jump serve that was too much for Faith Christian to handle, sending the ball into the stands for the win. Frear told The Gazette last week that he hoped to meet Faith Christian in the final again after developing a rivalry with the Eagles over the years. He said the Coursers’ second state title win over Faith Christian in 2016-17 sparked the idea that they could potentially sweep the championships through his high school career. “At that point we thought we could actually go for the full run. We thought no one was going to outwork us in the state,â€ Frear said last week. This is an amazing group of guys, they showed they are at the top of their game and proved it today. Frear was named first-team all-state by Colorado coaches and earned the most first-team votes in the state. He has signed to play Division I volleyball at McKendree University. “It was great to see them execute they way that I knew they could,â€ Soeldner said. “This is an amazing group of guys, they showed they are at the top of their game and proved it today.â€ Class 3A tournament D-20 White earned a first-round win in three sets over Thornton Gray 25-21, 20-25, 15-8 before running into Vanguard in the second round. James Irwin defeated Cheyenne Mountain White 25-19, 25-12 in the first round, but fell to Faith Christian in a tight three-set match in the semifinals. The Jaguars won the first set 25-17 before falling in the remaining two 25-19, 15-12. Class 5A tournament The No. 2 seed Cheyenne Mountain was upset in the first round by No. 7 Castle View Black in three sets (25-15, 27-29, 15-10). D-20 Blue also fell in a three-set first-round clash, losing to Thornton Blue 12-25, 25-19, 15-9. Jane Eckhart’s research focused on heel-strikers exclusively, since they make up most of today’s runners, and examined a cohort seldom studied, partly because they’re pretty rare: those who have never been injured. Jane and colleagues recruited 249 female recreational athletes who each ran at least 20 miles a week. They investigated the participants’ strides by having them run over a force plate that recorded the impact of each step.

How Do College Credits Work In High School? 的封面圖片集

There are a variety of ways for students to begin earning college credits while still in high school, and there are plenty of benefits to doing so. The following is an overview of how college credits work in high school and some of the most common questions that parents and students have about them. What Are The Benefits Of Pursuing College Credits In High School? By pursuing college credits while still in high school, students give themselves a head start when they begin college. The more credits a student accrues in high school, the higher chance they have of being admitted to the college of their choice. Also, by taking on the extra challenge of earning college credits while still in high school, students can learn valuable life skills that will prepare them for their life ahead. Since the added challenge of pursuing college credits is something students must juggle alongside their normal high school classes, they will need to adopt more disciplined planning and time management habits while managing work-life balance. How Many College Credits Can You Earn In High School? It’s possible for a student to earn as many as 120 college credit hours before they graduate high school. However, this number is quite extreme and isn’t typical. To accrue as many college credits as possible and have the biggest head-start going into college, it’s recommended for students to take on as many AP classes as they can without getting overwhelmed. The reason for this is that the best colleges, such as Ivy League colleges, often require you to score well on at least 3 to 5 AP classes. While less selective schools require 2 to 3. Ways To Earn College Credits In High School There are a variety of ways to earn college credits in high school, including: Advanced Placement (AP) exams College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program Dual enrollment Summer or winter study programs Benefits of AP Classes One of the best ways for high school students to earn college credits is by getting good scores in their Advanced Placement (AP) class exams. AP classes are designed to give students an entry-level college experience while they’re still in high school, and the scores they get in these classes can play a significant role in whether they qualify for the college of their choice after graduation. Most colleges will give credits for AP exam scores of 4 or 5, and less rigorous ones may accept a score of 3, but generally not lower than that. AP classes are an important part of a high school student’s curriculum, and students who want to have the most options after graduation are advised to take them seriously and study hard for them. Classical Education

Each student’s educational journey rests on the instructional approach they receive, whether it is based on a classical education approach or one that is more narrowly focused. Two prevalent educational strategies in the United States today are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Liberal Arts. Graduates of a Liberal Arts focused curriculum possess well-rounded knowledge in the subjects that reflect all aspects of our culture, past, and present. Graduates of a STEM approach possess a highly focused, integrated education in technology and the physical sciences. The choice between schools which focus on these two very different educational philosophies directly impacts the exposure and, thus, future career prospects for each student. Philosophy | Classical vs. STEM Liberal Arts study derived from classical education focuses on investigating concepts and issues that transcend the confines of any one discipline. Through the exploration of arts, humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences, students learn to interpret the world around them using a multi-faceted point of view. The STEM philosophy relies on its integrative approach to learning science, technology, engineering, and math that begins at a young age to prepare students for real-world application of the skills they have learned when they are ready to embark on their career paths. The difference between these two philosophies lies in the breadth of focus given to various disciplines of learning. STEM focuses more narrowly on areas relating to math and science. In contrast, the classical education approach widens the angle of purview. It concentrates on how disciplines such as philosophy, engineering, the arts, language, and science interconnect in the provision of knowledge. 麻豆官网 Philosophy 麻豆官网 is a classical education charter school that believes education should not just focus on preparing the student for college or a career. 麻豆官网 philosophy also focuses on preparing a student for life. Educators do this by helping students explore the lessons and truths passed down to us from scientists, philosophers, artists, and great thinkers throughout time from all over the world. Students incorporate the knowledge they glean from these many disciplines of learning to develop a genuinely organic and self-defined view on the planet, which they can use to become successful in tackling all hurdles life throws at them both professionally and personally. Education | Classical Education vs. STEM Traditionally, U.S. schools have used a liberal arts approach to learning that is based on a classical education foundation. Recently, because of our country’s drop in percentages of college graduates with technical degrees, a focus on STEM has begun to take hold. The intention behind STEM approaches is well-founded in need to increase the number of technically proficient graduates for our economy. However, this may come at the cost of a student fully prepared to confront all aspects of our society. Education at 麻豆官网 Educators at the classical education charter school, 麻豆官网, provide each student with a curriculum focused on providing pupils with the tools to make informed decisions about the world around them, no matter the subject. They teach their students how to think critically by using lessons and philosophies of the past and present in mathematics, philosophy, physical sciences, social sciences, the arts, literature, and foreign language. Students | Classical Education vs. STEM The opportunities available to students vary significantly based on the learning approach in which they have become immersed during their education. Students at 麻豆官网 Every year, nearly all of 麻豆官网 graduates proceed to college, many of whom start as sophomores or even juniors, thanks to the quantity of college-prep courses they have completed while receiving their classical education at 麻豆官网. The most defining aspect of the typical graduate of 麻豆官网 is that they have learned how to learn. Thanks to classical education, graduates possess the tools to overcome defeat, tackle intricate problems, and implement best study practices because of their experience at 麻豆官网. Each year, graduates of 麻豆官网 receive over 100,000 dollars in scholarships and other financial aid per student because of their preparedness and performance achieved during their elementary, middle school, and high school experience. College Readiness | Classical Education vs. STEM STEM students become graduates who are prepared to take on particular occupations in technological fields of work. Many STEM students enter the workforce directly, while others continue with higher education focused on more STEM areas of study. Students who attend classical education charter schools receive a curriculum focused heavily on Liberal Arts. Students receive exposure to a wider variety of subjects to include the arts and humanities. This exposure broadens the areas of opportunities available to them as young professionals

AP classes are a particular type of course that high school students can take to get an entry-level college experience while they are still in high school. In this article, we will address the most frequently asked questions that parents and students have about AP College Credits. Do AP Classes Count as College Credit? The benefit of AP classes is that they give high school students the opportunity to earn college credits before they start college. Students who get a high score on their AP Exam at the end of the semester are able to show them to colleges during admission to earn college credits with them. How Are AP Exam Test Scores Ranked? At the end of the semester, students will take an AP Exam that will rank them on a scale of 1 to 5 on that subject. This score represents how “qualified” a student is to begin taking college classes. For example, a 1 on the exam score illustrates “unqualified,” in which case the student would need to wait a year if they want to retake the AP exam. A 5 on the exam represents “extremely qualified.â€ What AP Score Do I Need for My College of Choice? Most colleges require a 4 (well-qualified) or a 5 (extremely qualified) on the AP exam for students to be eligible for college credit. However, the rules vary depending on the college, and some will accept a 3 (qualified) depending on the strictness of their admission policy. How Do AP Classes Affect GPA? AP classes also have an effect on a student’s GPA. Usually, an A in the AP class is weighed as a 4.0 on the GPA. However, a large number of high schools and universities grant students an extra point from AP classes. In such cases, an A in an AP class will result in a 5.0 GPA credit, while a B will result in a 4.0 GPA, a C equals a 3.0, and D a 2.0 GPA. How Many AP Classes Should a Student Take? Generally, it is best for students to take as many AP classes as possible, as long as they do not take on such a significant workload that they get overwhelmed, and their grades begin to suffer. The reason for this is that the best schools, such as Ivy League schools, often require you to score well on at least 3 to 5 AP classes. While less selective schools require 2 to 3. A disciplined time management schedule is essential when taking AP classes, as students will have to juggle taking them alongside their regular classes. They will still need to have enough time to study for the ACT or SAT.
