麻豆官网’s Team America Rocketry Club (TARC) has been named one of two Colorado teams to advance to the national finals on Saturday in Virginia. Vanguard is one of two Colorado school teams to qualify for finals in the 2018-19 season and is aiming for a top-10 finish. Team members are Jonathan Drosendahl (team captain), Alex Belli, Cyan Johnson, Duncan Lewis, Yoslin Peerez-Robles, Will Stone and Leo Xiao. Team Ballistic joins another team from Durango, Colo., as the only Colorado teams to make the cut. Vanguard has competed in the national program since the 2002-03 season, said astronomy, chemistry and rocketry teacher Steve Riegel. “We had two teams, Team Ballistic and Team Flame Tested, competing in the last two seasons and historically fielded multiple teams each year,â€ Riegel said. To get to the finals, teams of three to 10 students in grades six through 12 design and test their rockets against contest rules for size and weight limits, altitudes, payload and total air time. Students were required to send three raw eggs up into the air 856 feet, separate the egg capsule from the rocket and return the egg capsule to the ground within 43 to 46 seconds, with the eggs undamaged. Once satisfied with the testing, teams declare qualification attempts which is scored. Teams receive up to three qualification flight attempts and the best two of three scores are chosen for submission. The top 100 are invited to the finals. A total of 36 points was the qualifying cutoff for this year’s event, Riegel said. This is the school’s third trip in the last four years and the second consecutive trip for Team Ballistic, Riegel said. “They placed 14th in the nation from more than 800 registered teams last year and were the highest-placing team from Colorado,â€ Riegel said. Students developed designs during the summer and began building after school reconvened in August. To date, TARC has raised about $1,800 of its $5,000 goal, said Vanguard Director of Advancement Audrey Szychulski. “It’s been wonderful to see this team come together and rally to raise the funds,â€ said Szychulski, who offers design, construction, flight testing and rocket refining advice. “A fantastic example was the carwash on May 4. All team members participated and they had a continuous line of drivers waiting to donate to the cause.â€ During their trip to the finals, students will spend a morning conducting additional practice flights in Virginia to refine their parachute sizes to account denser atmosphere, Riegel said. Students will attend a “Rockets on the Hillâ€ reception on Friday at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., and showcase their design to senators and their staff. Students may take part in special tours of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Annex or Virgina-based aerospace companies. During the competition, teams will get one flight in the first round and the top 40 based on score will fly again in the second round. The total of both scores determines national ranking. Teams in the top 10 places split $100,000 of prize money. Additional cash prizes will be awarded for innovation, engineering documentation and construction quality. The top team receives an all-expenses paid trip to Europe this summer to compete at the International level against England, France and Japan, Riegel said. If TARC places high enough and NASA has the budget, the school may be invited to submit a bit for NASA’s Student Launch Initiative, Riegel said. “It would having to undergo a year-long engineering proposal and design review process before eventually flying a rocket with 32 times the total power of this year’s model,â€ Riegel said. Through TARC, students learn teamwork and how to analyze flight data, manage budgets, conduct computer simulations of rocket performance and apply engineering skills to designing and building the rockets. “The goal of sport rocketry is to expose and encourage new rocketeers to the hobby and graduate them up into the competition teams,â€ Riegel said. Graduating students benefit from their TARC involvement. Belli plans to study mechanical engineering with Colorado School of Mines, and Xiao, computer science at UC Berkeley. TARC is open to middle and high school students who hold a C or better in each class. Rocketry experience isn’t required, though exposure to smaller model rockets is a plus. Members must commit to attending weekly after-school club meetings, building sessions and weekend launches. Comments Comment by A WordPress Commenter (2019-03-12 14:07:07): Hi, this is a comment. CENTENNIAL – When 麻豆官网 coach Andrew Soeldner held the school’s first boys’ volleyball practice six years ago, he asked the team who had played organized volleyball before signing up. “No one raised their hands,â€ Soeldner said. But it took just a year for Vanguard to appear in the 3A state championship, which sparked a near-perfect run the next four years. Saturday, Vanguard defeated Faith Christian for the championship 2-0 (25-15, 25-18) for the program’s fourth consecutive title, increasing its unbelievable 3A winning streak to 90 matches. Soeldner said celebrating their fourth title felt just as good as the first, but he went through an emotional journey throughout the day. “The first time was great because it was new, we were all working together, we were figuring it out, but this time they are my family,â€ Soeldner said. “I’ve known them all for five years now and then there’s this sadness throughout the whole day, knowing and counting down – 150 points left, 100 points left, 50… 0. And I’m not going to coach these seniors ever again.â€ Soeldner has coached a large core of the seven-member senior class since they were in eighth grade – the first time Vanguard made it to the state championship. The Coursers started the day with a 2-0 win over St. Mary’s in the first round, but according to Soeldner, fell off a bit in the second set of their second-round game against D-20 White. Vanguard ultimately defeated the other Pikes Peak region team 25-23 in the second set for a 2-0 sweep, setting up their third title match against Faith Christian in four years. The Coursers set the tone early thanks in part to senior Hayden Frear smacking down four kills on the way to a 7-1 lead in the first set. Vanguard began the second set in similar fashion, earning a 5-0 lead. Faith Christian kept the set tight the whole way, tying it up early, before battling back from a four-point deficit to close within one. But behind senior Carter Milroy at the service line, Vanguard used a 6-0 run to put it on ice. Frear delivered a powerful jump serve that was too much for Faith Christian to handle, sending the ball into the stands for the win. Frear told The Gazette last week that he hoped to meet Faith Christian in the final again after developing a rivalry with the Eagles over the years. He said the Coursers’ second state title win over Faith Christian in 2016-17 sparked the idea that they could potentially sweep the championships through his high school career. “At that point we thought we could actually go for the full run. We thought no one was going to outwork us in the state,â€ Frear said last week. This is an amazing group of guys, they showed they are at the top of their game and proved it today. Frear was named first-team all-state by Colorado coaches and earned the most first-team votes in the state. He has signed to play Division I volleyball at McKendree University. “It was great to see them execute they way that I knew they could,â€ Soeldner said. “This is an amazing group of guys, they showed they are at the top of their game and proved it today.â€ Class 3A tournament D-20 White earned a first-round win in three sets over Thornton Gray 25-21, 20-25, 15-8 before running into Vanguard in the second round. James Irwin defeated Cheyenne Mountain White 25-19, 25-12 in the first round, but fell to Faith Christian in a tight three-set match in the semifinals. The Jaguars won the first set 25-17 before falling in the remaining two 25-19, 15-12. Class 5A tournament The No. 2 seed Cheyenne Mountain was upset in the first round by No. 7 Castle View Black in three sets (25-15, 27-29, 15-10). D-20 Blue also fell in a three-set first-round clash, losing to Thornton Blue 12-25, 25-19, 15-9. Jane Eckhart’s research focused on heel-strikers exclusively, since they make up most of today’s runners, and examined a cohort seldom studied, partly because they’re pretty rare: those who have never been injured. Jane and colleagues recruited 249 female recreational athletes who each ran at least 20 miles a week. They investigated the participants’ strides by having them run over a force plate that recorded the impact of each step.

The two coaches on the court at Thursday’s 3A Tri-Peaks volleyball match between Vanguard and St. Mary’s may have only recently returned to girls’ volleyball, but their resumes speak for themselves. With more than 500 combined match wins and 10 state championships, David Barkley and Andrew Soeldner returned this season after taking time off from girls’ volleyball. Barkley retired from coaching in January 2018, after 15 seasons and six state championships with Cheyenne Mountain. But after about a year away from the court, he was approached by a family friend about the opening at St. Mary’s. Barkley initially said no. “Not unless there is an opening in the English department,â€ Barkley told Nancy Kellick, the Pirates’ C-team coach and mother of junior middle Jillian Kellick. Two days later, one opened up. “It wasn’t forced, it was a real opening, so I applied,â€ Barkley said. “I coach for the same reason wherever I am. These are some great kids, they work so hard and I’m happy to be here. We’re having fun, we smile and we play the game.â€ There was an air of excitement on the team when it was announced last spring that Barkley would be joining the coaching staff. “I thought it was a blessing. I was so excited the bar was set really, really high and he has met that and even more,â€ said senior libero Sarah Connors. “He knows his stuff and really wants us to succeed. He really knows how to get us at our full potential.â€ St. Mary’s came away with a 3-0 sweep over Vanguard, defeating the Coursers 25-20, 25-17, 25-12. Seneca Hackley had seven kills for the Pirates and Jillian Kellick had five. St. Mary’s racked up 21 aces against Vanguard, led by Rachel Wilcox and Connors with seven each. Soeldner, on the other hand, was busy coaching the Vanguard boys’ team to four straight state championships and a near-perfect 92-2 record. “Several players from the varsity team from last year actively sought me out and wrote me a letter imploring me to come back to coach them,â€ Soeldner told the Gazette in Vanguard’s preseason questionnaire. “I hope to live up to their expectations.â€ Soeldner, an engineer, is already bringing a different coaching technique to the girls’ team that has proven successful on the boys’ side the past four years. “It’s a different game,â€ Soeldner said. “It’s been a little bit of an adjustment and getting back into gear for me.â€ His coaching, which relies heavily on analytical film review, angles, velocity and energy, is so in-depth that he even wears a mic on the sideline to analyze his own coaching. “At first they were kind of snickering a little bit, and telling me that nobody has ever explained it like that before, it makes a lot of sense,â€ Soeldner said. “I think they’re finding value in that, and my coaches as well.â€

The decision to add boys’ volleyball as a Colorado high school sanctioned sport has been decades in the making. But while the debate raged on at the Colorado High School Activities Association, one school was building a boys’ volleyball dynasty in Colorado Springs. This weekend 麻豆官网 will compete for its fourth straight Colorado 3A state championship – this time with more eyes than ever on the growing sport. Just two weeks ago, CHSAA approved boys’ volleyball as a sanctioned sport starting the 2020-21 school year, making this year’s state tournament the first of its kind as a pilot program, and a glimpse into what the sport will look like under CHSAA’s umbrella in spring 2021. Vanguard, which has an enrollment of just 305 according to the latest CHSAA numbers, began a boys’ volleyball club program six years ago. The Coursers made it to the state finals in their second year and won three consecutive after that – including two undefeated seasons. “For some reason this really tiny school just got really good boys’ volleyball,â€ said senior Seth Fuqua, who was also the captain of the boys’ basketball team that took second in 3A this year. But coach Andrew Soeldner implemented a system early that could be responsible for the Coursers’ consistent success. “I’m an engineer, so I approach things in an analytical way. So I use stats heavily, and film, and every week we go over our body position and how we react to the other team,â€ Soeldner said. “That kind of analysis and breakdown has really helped. I think they have a good grasp of the game and I think that’s showing now in this crew.â€ Of the six players on Vanguard’s varsity roster, five are seniors, and three have been with the team the past four years. Senior Hayden Frear, who has signed to play Division I men’s volleyball, said he believes it’s a combination of the culture at Vanguard and the athleticism of the team, which has been together for years. “There’s a lot of support around here, and people want the sport to grow around here so that really helps,â€ Frear said. “We’re also really lucky with who we have. We have some really athletic guys. Three of us play club, so we’re definitely lucky.â€ Vanguard heads to state on Saturday at Eaglecrest undefeated, ranked No. 1 in the state and in the top 80 nationally. The top four teams in 3A are from the Colorado Springs area according to MaxPreps rankings, with James Irwin ranked second at 20-1, followed by District 20 White (22-2) and Cheyenne Mountain White (16-4). St. Mary’s is ranked eighth (15-6). The Cheyenne Mountain 5A team is ranked second in the classification with its only loss of the year coming against No. 1 Ponderosa, according to MaxPreps. District 20’s 5A team is ranked fourth in the classification.

Vanguard’s Nique Clifford commits to University of Colorado basketball During the Vanguard boys basketball’s historic run to the state championship game last year, it became clear that Vanguard’s Dominique “Nique” Clifford was destined for Division I basketball. It was only a matter of where. Friday, Clifford announced his commitment to the University of Colorado through a two-part video series on Twitter. “I would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me,” Clifford said in his commitment video. “I could not have done it without the help and support from my mom, dad, grandparents, teachers, friends, coaches, teammates and trainers.” Since he was a kid Clifford had dreamed of playing basketball at UCLA, but when and offer didn’t come he chose the next best thing — to play the Bruins twice a year. “I think God has a plan for everyone so I think getting to play them is just as good — I’ll just have to show them what they missed,” Clifford said. He said he’s excited about the freedom of college life, and transitioning to a much bigger school and program than Class 3A Vanguard. “Basketball wise it’s going to be a lot different with the competition levels, but it’s been my goal all my life. I’ll be ready for it when the time comes,” Clifford said. His time might come earlier than typical recruits, as Clifford said CU coaches hopes he will have an immediate impact on the team as a freshman. “They see me playing combo guard and they honestly think I could take them to the next level as a program,” Clifford said. “Of course it all has to be earned, but it’s the big time and big goals for me so I’m on the grind to prove them right.” In three varsity seasons at Vanguard, Clifford has averaged 14.5 points per game, including a career-high double-double average of 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds as a junior. His junior season, in which he helped the Coursers to the Class 3A state championship game, was sparked by a 5-inch growth spurt in the off season. His height, 6 feet, 5 inches, quickness and flair made him one of the most dangerous shooting guards in the state. He has received 11 Division I offers, including from Stanford, Denver, Northern Colorado, Colorado State and Wyoming. He went on official visits to CU, CSU and Wyoming in the last month. Clifford said it was a touch decision between Wyoming, CSU, Stanford and CU, but chose to go on official visits at certain schools because of the connection he felt with the coaches. “All of the places I visited were super nice, but Colorado had the best campus, and on my visit I just felt at home,” Clifford said. “It really just hit different than other schools.” “What stands out most about Dominique is his personality,” said Vanguard coach Joe Wetters in the commitment video. “He’s a fearless leader and very intelligent on the basketball court. I think what separates him most is his ability as a lead guard to put himself in position to make the team better, and that’s what he’s good at.” Clifford is listed as a four-star recruit and ranked No. 83 nationally on 247 sports among the top 2020 basketball recruits.

Choosing the right college extends beyond receiving a bachelor’s degree or a diploma. The college you attend touches numerous aspects of your life, from your academic studies and job opportunities to your social activities, hobbies, and more. It’s entirely up to you to identify essential factors in your lifestyle to determine what you want to achieve beyond your higher education. Once you’ve developed a list of your most important factors, it will be much easier to create a list of schools that can cater to your needs. In this guide, we share all the necessary steps to help you choose the right college. Why Is Choosing the Right College Important? No matter the level of degree you are seeking to earn, choosing the right college is crucial if you want to equip yourself for the future and make yourself eligible for more job opportunities. Higher education experiences vary widely from one college to another, and so do the degrees they offer. When Should You Decide on a College? Selecting a college can be broken into two stages; the application process and choosing between the received admission decisions. High school seniors typically apply to various colleges and universities of their interest during the fall semester, and admission decisions are usually released by schools between January and March. Once you receive the admission decisions from the schools you applied to; you’ll need to choose which college you wish to attend. Most colleges/universities require students to make their enrollment decision by May 1. How Do I Find Scholarships? One of the most frequently asked questions by senior high school students is finding scholarships for their higher education. At 麻豆官网, our College Counseling Office work with students on a daily basis to find available grants, work-study opportunities, and scholarships at each student’s desired school(s). Please visit our page to find more helpful information on college scholarships. Factors to Consider When choosing a college, several factors should be considered to help you find the best fit for you. Academic Quality and Accreditation One of the best ways to ensure that you get into a school that offers high-quality education is to research the school’s rankings and reviews. The report is one of the reputable sources with the most extensive information. While objective rankings are valuable, it’s also essential to have an insight into things from first-person experiences, which you can get from . Niche is a great resource for reviews from various students who are attending or have attended different colleges. In addition to the academic quality, it’s vital to ensure that the college you choose is accredited. Accreditation is the process that higher education institutions go through to meet certain standards to maintain quality. It’s important to check whether the school is nationally or regionally accredited. Regional accreditations are generally considered more reliable in terms of academic quality. You might also want to check whether the individual academic department you wish to join is accredited in the specific field you wish to study. Size You’ll find state universities that enroll more students and smaller liberal art colleges with fewer students. While small colleges and universities may not offer a wide range of programs, they sometimes offer more specialized degrees. Small schools also offer smaller class sizes, which can provide you with access to one-on-one support from academic advisors and professors. However, if you have a clear goal and interest in what you want to do, you may thrive more at a bigger university because you’ll get access to diverse coursework, professional resources, and a wide range of social and cultural activities. Geographic Location Location is among the most crucial factors to consider when choosing a college. The first question many students ask themselves is if they want to go to school in-state or out-of-state. Many students choose to go to school in-state so that they can continue living at home and avoid the costs associated with dorm living and travel. Most colleges also offer “in-stateâ€ tuition, which is less expensive that “out-of-stateâ€ tuition. Knowing whether you want to live in a sprawling metropolis, rural area, or someplace in between will also help you choose a college that will suit your lifestyle and desires. For instance, if you want to attain a more intimate sense of community and build meaningful and strong relationships with your fellow peers or professors, choosing a college in a small town might be ideal. However, if you’re looking forward to getting more exposure and access to various cultural and social activities alongside more internship opportunities with major companies, consider colleges in large cities. Tuition Costs Consider schools that offer tuition costs within your budget. Based on the report, in-state students in a four-year institution spend an average of $9,410 on tuition fees, while out-o

What Is Considered A Good SAT Score? SAT scores are important because they can help a student get into the college of their choice. Not all schools weigh SAT scores as heavily as others do, so its influence upon a college admission approval or denial may be sizable or small. However, for standardized tests, the big ones most colleges look at are the SAT and the ACT, so it pays to take them and do as well as possible. Parents and students may also wish to research in advance the student’s University of choice for individual school requirements. Universities: An SAT score of 1250 will be high enough to gain admittance into many universities. Certain state universities will accept scores in the seven hundred and eight hundred range, but other more prestigious schools like Yale will want to see a higher score than that, generally at least in the upper fourteen hundred range. Community (or Junior) Colleges: A community or junior college will entertain scores in a lower range and may not require the SAT at all. Vocational: Many vocational programs do not require SAT scores from prospective students. Technical Schools: Many technical schools also do not use SAT scores because they do not view these tests as barometers of the kind of talent they are seeking. Specialized Institutes: Specialized institutes often do not require SAT scores either, or may only require one component of it. If a student is going to a math institute, for instance, the school may only look at the math portion of the SAT so please refer to your individual school’s admission requirements for their list of desired pre-qualifiers. Student SAT Scores at 麻豆官网 Students at 麻豆官网 perform well annually on the SATs. Out of the sixteen hundred points possible, the Class of 2020 scored an average of 1218 on the SAT. That is 204 points higher than the state average of 1014. The Class of 2018 had an average combined score of 1245. What Is A Good GPA In High School? A good GPA depends upon which type of school the student plans to attend. A three out of a four on a grading scale will not be good enough for top Ivy League schools, but it will be acceptable for many other colleges. The average graduate from 麻豆官网 does well, often landing a high enough GPA to attend their school of choice. Ninety-two percent of the most recent class to graduate from 麻豆官网 went on to attend a four-year college. Some technical schools will place more emphasis on math classes than schools for English majors will. Additionally, some students may need to take extra math classes if they desire a major in the sciences. These may include subjects such as trigonometry and calculus. The Accuplacer test is an excellent tool to ensure a student’s placement in the right classes for their ability level. Students may take it when they are about to enter college, or if they are still in high school but want to enroll in college-level courses. After admission, the test is administered online by the college the student will attend. The tests may cover the subjects of writing, reading, and math. The score will determine which class a student should take to match their skill level. How Do AP College Credits Work? AP College Credit Many high schools work with students who want to earn college credits in high school. Advanced Placement college credit is one way to accomplish that. Some colleges will allow students to take tests to place out of certain college requirements. AP College Credit At 麻豆官网 Every year, 麻豆官网 offers as many as fifteen courses that allow students to earn college credits. That gives them a head start on their college careers following graduation. Call the main office for more information (719) 471-1999 x200. How Do College Credits Work? Here is an example. For instance, those who took extensive language courses in high school may take a proficiency test and be able to skip taking college foreign language classes. Advanced Placement tests often carry a small fee, but they can save students a lot of money if they place out of many classes.
