Studying Latin sharpens students’ skills in memorization and critical and logical thinking, expands students’ understanding of the origins and workings of many languages, and serves as a gateway to the study of the culture and civilization of ancient Rome, the precepts and ideas of which form the foundation of Western civilization. Classical Education

Each student’s educational journey rests on the instructional approach they receive, whether it is based on a classical education approach or one that is more narrowly focused. Two prevalent educational strategies in the United States today are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Liberal Arts. Graduates of a Liberal Arts focused curriculum possess well-rounded knowledge in the subjects that reflect all aspects of our culture, past, and present. Graduates of a STEM approach possess a highly focused, integrated education in technology and the physical sciences. The choice between schools which focus on these two very different educational philosophies directly impacts the exposure and, thus, future career prospects for each student. Philosophy | Classical vs. STEM Liberal Arts study derived from classical education focuses on investigating concepts and issues that transcend the confines of any one discipline. Through the exploration of arts, humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences, students learn to interpret the world around them using a multi-faceted point of view. The STEM philosophy relies on its integrative approach to learning science, technology, engineering, and math that begins at a young age to prepare students for real-world application of the skills they have learned when they are ready to embark on their career paths. The difference between these two philosophies lies in the breadth of focus given to various disciplines of learning. STEM focuses more narrowly on areas relating to math and science. In contrast, the classical education approach widens the angle of purview. It concentrates on how disciplines such as philosophy, engineering, the arts, language, and science interconnect in the provision of knowledge. 麻豆官网 Philosophy 麻豆官网 is a classical education charter school that believes education should not just focus on preparing the student for college or a career. 麻豆官网 philosophy also focuses on preparing a student for life. Educators do this by helping students explore the lessons and truths passed down to us from scientists, philosophers, artists, and great thinkers throughout time from all over the world. Students incorporate the knowledge they glean from these many disciplines of learning to develop a genuinely organic and self-defined view on the planet, which they can use to become successful in tackling all hurdles life throws at them both professionally and personally. Education | Classical Education vs. STEM Traditionally, U.S. schools have used a liberal arts approach to learning that is based on a classical education foundation. Recently, because of our country’s drop in percentages of college graduates with technical degrees, a focus on STEM has begun to take hold. The intention behind STEM approaches is well-founded in need to increase the number of technically proficient graduates for our economy. However, this may come at the cost of a student fully prepared to confront all aspects of our society. Education at 麻豆官网 Educators at the classical education charter school, 麻豆官网, provide each student with a curriculum focused on providing pupils with the tools to make informed decisions about the world around them, no matter the subject. They teach their students how to think critically by using lessons and philosophies of the past and present in mathematics, philosophy, physical sciences, social sciences, the arts, literature, and foreign language. Students | Classical Education vs. STEM The opportunities available to students vary significantly based on the learning approach in which they have become immersed during their education. Students at 麻豆官网 Every year, nearly all of 麻豆官网 graduates proceed to college, many of whom start as sophomores or even juniors, thanks to the quantity of college-prep courses they have completed while receiving their classical education at 麻豆官网. The most defining aspect of the typical graduate of 麻豆官网 is that they have learned how to learn. Thanks to classical education, graduates possess the tools to overcome defeat, tackle intricate problems, and implement best study practices because of their experience at 麻豆官网. Each year, graduates of 麻豆官网 receive over 100,000 dollars in scholarships and other financial aid per student because of their preparedness and performance achieved during their elementary, middle school, and high school experience. College Readiness | Classical Education vs. STEM STEM students become graduates who are prepared to take on particular occupations in technological fields of work. Many STEM students enter the workforce directly, while others continue with higher education focused on more STEM areas of study. Students who attend classical education charter schools receive a curriculum focused heavily on Liberal Arts. Students receive exposure to a wider variety of subjects to include the arts and humanities. This exposure broadens the areas of opportunities available to them as young professionals

AP classes are a particular type of course that high school students can take to get an entry-level college experience while they are still in high school. In this article, we will address the most frequently asked questions that parents and students have about AP College Credits. Do AP Classes Count as College Credit? The benefit of AP classes is that they give high school students the opportunity to earn college credits before they start college. Students who get a high score on their AP Exam at the end of the semester are able to show them to colleges during admission to earn college credits with them. How Are AP Exam Test Scores Ranked? At the end of the semester, students will take an AP Exam that will rank them on a scale of 1 to 5 on that subject. This score represents how “qualified” a student is to begin taking college classes. For example, a 1 on the exam score illustrates “unqualified,” in which case the student would need to wait a year if they want to retake the AP exam. A 5 on the exam represents “extremely qualified.â€ What AP Score Do I Need for My College of Choice? Most colleges require a 4 (well-qualified) or a 5 (extremely qualified) on the AP exam for students to be eligible for college credit. However, the rules vary depending on the college, and some will accept a 3 (qualified) depending on the strictness of their admission policy. How Do AP Classes Affect GPA? AP classes also have an effect on a student’s GPA. Usually, an A in the AP class is weighed as a 4.0 on the GPA. However, a large number of high schools and universities grant students an extra point from AP classes. In such cases, an A in an AP class will result in a 5.0 GPA credit, while a B will result in a 4.0 GPA, a C equals a 3.0, and D a 2.0 GPA. How Many AP Classes Should a Student Take? Generally, it is best for students to take as many AP classes as possible, as long as they do not take on such a significant workload that they get overwhelmed, and their grades begin to suffer. The reason for this is that the best schools, such as Ivy League schools, often require you to score well on at least 3 to 5 AP classes. While less selective schools require 2 to 3. A disciplined time management schedule is essential when taking AP classes, as students will have to juggle taking them alongside their regular classes. They will still need to have enough time to study for the ACT or SAT. What Is Considered A Good SAT Score? SAT scores are important because they can help a student get into the college of their choice. Not all schools weigh SAT scores as heavily as others do, so its influence upon a college admission approval or denial may be sizable or small. However, for standardized tests, the big ones most colleges look at are the SAT and the ACT, so it pays to take them and do as well as possible. Parents and students may also wish to research in advance the student’s University of choice for individual school requirements. Universities: An SAT score of 1250 will be high enough to gain admittance into many universities. Certain state universities will accept scores in the seven hundred and eight hundred range, but other more prestigious schools like Yale will want to see a higher score than that, generally at least in the upper fourteen hundred range. Community (or Junior) Colleges: A community or junior college will entertain scores in a lower range and may not require the SAT at all. Vocational: Many vocational programs do not require SAT scores from prospective students. Technical Schools: Many technical schools also do not use SAT scores because they do not view these tests as barometers of the kind of talent they are seeking. Specialized Institutes: Specialized institutes often do not require SAT scores either, or may only require one component of it. If a student is going to a math institute, for instance, the school may only look at the math portion of the SAT so please refer to your individual school’s admission requirements for their list of desired pre-qualifiers. Student SAT Scores at 麻豆官网 Students at 麻豆官网 perform well annually on the SATs. Out of the sixteen hundred points possible, the Class of 2020 scored an average of 1218 on the SAT. That is 204 points higher than the state average of 1014. The Class of 2018 had an average combined score of 1245. What Is A Good GPA In High School? A good GPA depends upon which type of school the student plans to attend. A three out of a four on a grading scale will not be good enough for top Ivy League schools, but it will be acceptable for many other colleges. The average graduate from 麻豆官网 does well, often landing a high enough GPA to attend their school of choice. Ninety-two percent of the most recent class to graduate from 麻豆官网 went on to attend a four-year college. Some technical schools will place more emphasis on math classes than schools for English majors will. Additionally, some students may need to take extra math classes if they desire a major in the sciences. These may include subjects such as trigonometry and calculus. The Accuplacer test is an excellent tool to ensure a student’s placement in the right classes for their ability level. Students may take it when they are about to enter college, or if they are still in high school but want to enroll in college-level courses. After admission, the test is administered online by the college the student will attend. The tests may cover the subjects of writing, reading, and math. The score will determine which class a student should take to match their skill level. How Do AP College Credits Work? AP College Credit Many high schools work with students who want to earn college credits in high school. Advanced Placement college credit is one way to accomplish that. Some colleges will allow students to take tests to place out of certain college requirements. AP College Credit At 麻豆官网 Every year, 麻豆官网 offers as many as fifteen courses that allow students to earn college credits. That gives them a head start on their college careers following graduation. Call the main office for more information (719) 471-1999 x200. How Do College Credits Work? Here is an example. For instance, those who took extensive language courses in high school may take a proficiency test and be able to skip taking college foreign language classes. Advanced Placement tests often carry a small fee, but they can save students a lot of money if they place out of many classes. High school students may also attend college by taking online college courses before graduation. Students can save time and expense compared to taking all their college courses at the university they attend. Do College Credits Expire? No, but the ones earned in high school may not fully transfer, depending upon the university the student attends.

TARC is a yearly competition where teams attempt to fly rockets with specific design and performance parameters (e.g., to specific altitudes with a particular payload). The rockets are constructed from light-weight materials, such as cardboard, wood, and plastic, and recover under a parachute. Sport rocketry involves non-competitive model rocket building and flying. Standardized tests, especially the SAT, continue to be an important part of the college search process. Many universities include SAT scores as part of their entrance requirements and even those that don’t often use them to determine the range of academic scholarships you will receive. Fortunately, preparing for it is not nearly as daunting as it may seem. As with any major test, you need to know what to expect. With a better idea of the scope of the SAT, you can build your timeline and schedule time to prepare for testing day. When Should High School Students Take the SAT? The SAT typically happens seven times in an academic year: March, May, June, August, October, November, and December. Testing times are usually offered on Saturdays. The College Board, which administers the test, that March 12, May 7, and June 4 will be the last testing days in this academic year. SAT experts typically recommend that students take the test twice: The spring of their junior year in high school. The fall of their senior year in high school, before college application deadlines. Research shows that students who take the SAT twice tend to improve their scores, however, there is no limit to how often you take the test and you can take it at any point in your high school career. If you feel the need to take it more than twice, all it takes is an extra registration. 麻豆官网 offers a no-charge SAT Test day to all junior and senior students, but students may also register for the test outside of our scheduled test day. How Long Does It Take to Prep for the SAT? Most students take about two to three months to practice for the SAT. On that timeline, carve out one to three hours each week specifically for SAT practice, and take at least one practice test a month to track your progress and find areas that you need to improve. To stick to that plan, it helps to build a study schedule. Start with a baseline test to benchmark yourself and understand where you should focus most of your early studies. Then, set aside a specific time each week to focus on these studies, ensuring that other priorities in your life don’t overtake the need to continue studying. Of course, you can also take more than three months to study. With the right research, you’ll find effective that can be more focused if you still need to improve significantly on some areas or simply don’t have the time to prepare for multiple hours each week. The most intensive plans aim to ensure that there are no surprises come test time. What Can I Expect On SAT Test Day? The test itself consists of four subject areas: reading, writing and language, math, and an optional essay. Let’s break each of them down for a better understanding of what you can expect: Reading : You will have 65 minutes to complete the first section. The basic concept is simple: read five passages of content taken from literature, history, and other sources, and answer 52 multiple choice questions about them. You might be asked to identify context or author intent or compare two passages against each other. Writing and Language : The time allowed for this section is 35 minutes. That’s the time you have to answer 44 multiple choice questions, which focus on grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and other pieces related to making sure you know how to write just right. Math : You will have a total of 80 minutes on the math portion of the test – 25 minutes to answer non-calculator questions, and 55 minutes for 38 questions in which you can use a calculator. You’ll be asked to analyze data, solve basic algebra equations, and perform basic trigonometry to ace this section. Optional Essay : You will have 50 minutes to write an essay on a pre-selected topic. While this section is optional, many universities require a score for your essay, so be sure to check before taking the test – or complete the essay just in case. In between all the above times, you’ll have two breaks during which you are allowed to eat and drink: one 10-minute break and an additional 5-minute break. You will not be allowed to bring your test book, answer sheet, or calculator on your breaks. Where Should I Turn for Help in SAT Prep?
