Academic Scores & College Credit FAQs
Classical Education
What Is Considered A Good SAT Score? SAT scores are important because they can help a student get into the college of their choice. Not all schools weigh SAT scores as heavily as others do, so its influence upon a college admission approval or denial may be sizable or small. However, for standardized tests, the big ones most colleges look at are the SAT and the ACT, so it pays to take them and do as well as possible. Parents and students may also wish to research in advance the student’s University of choice for individual school requirements. Universities: An SAT score of 1250 will be high enough to gain admittance into many universities. Certain state universities will accept scores in the seven hundred and eight hundred range, but other more prestigious schools like Yale will want to see a higher score than that, generally at least in the upper fourteen hundred range. Community (or Junior) Colleges: A community or junior college will entertain scores in a lower range and may not require the SAT at all. Vocational: Many vocational programs do not require SAT scores from prospective students. Technical Schools: Many technical schools also do not use SAT scores because they do not view these tests as barometers of the kind of talent they are seeking. Specialized Institutes: Specialized institutes often do not require SAT scores either, or may only require one component of it. If a student is going to a math institute, for instance, the school may only look at the math portion of the SAT so please refer to your individual school’s admission requirements for their list of desired pre-qualifiers. Student SAT Scores at 麻豆官网 Students at 麻豆官网 perform well annually on the SATs. Out of the sixteen hundred points possible, the Class of 2020 scored an average of 1218 on the SAT. That is 204 points higher than the state average of 1014. The Class of 2018 had an average combined score of 1245. What Is A Good GPA In High School? A good GPA depends upon which type of school the student plans to attend. A three out of a four on a grading scale will not be good enough for top Ivy League schools, but it will be acceptable for many other colleges. The average graduate from 麻豆官网 does well, often landing a high enough GPA to attend their school of choice. Ninety-two percent of the most recent class to graduate from 麻豆官网 went on to attend a four-year college. Some technical schools will place more emphasis on math classes than schools for English majors will. Additionally, some students may need to take extra math classes if they desire a major in the sciences. These may include subjects such as trigonometry and calculus. The Accuplacer test is an excellent tool to ensure a student’s placement in the right classes for their ability level. Students may take it when they are about to enter college, or if they are still in high school but want to enroll in college-level courses. After admission, the test is administered online by the college the student will attend. The tests may cover the subjects of writing, reading, and math. The score will determine which class a student should take to match their skill level. How Do AP College Credits Work? High school students may also attend college by taking online college courses before graduation. Students can save time and expense compared to taking all their college courses at the university they attend. Do College Credits Expire? No, but the ones earned in high school may not fully transfer, depending upon the university the student attends.
Classical Education vs. STEM
Classical Education
Each student’s educational journey rests on the instructional approach they receive, whether it is based on a classical education approach or one that is more narrowly focused. Two prevalent educational strategies in the United States today are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Liberal Arts. Graduates of a Liberal Arts focused curriculum possess well-rounded knowledge in the subjects that reflect all aspects of our culture, past, and present. Graduates of a STEM approach possess a highly focused, integrated education in technology and the physical sciences. The choice between schools which focus on these two very different educational philosophies directly impacts the exposure and, thus, future career prospects for each student. Philosophy | Classical vs. STEM Liberal Arts study derived from classical education focuses on investigating concepts and issues that transcend the confines of any one discipline. Through the exploration of arts, humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences, students learn to interpret the world around them using a multi-faceted point of view. The STEM philosophy relies on its integrative approach to learning science, technology, engineering, and math that begins at a young age to prepare students for real-world application of the skills they have learned when they are ready to embark on their career paths. The difference between these two philosophies lies in the breadth of focus given to various disciplines of learning. STEM focuses more narrowly on areas relating to math and science. In contrast, the classical education approach widens the angle of purview. It concentrates on how disciplines such as philosophy, engineering, the arts, language, and science interconnect in the provision of knowledge. 麻豆官网 Philosophy 麻豆官网 is a classical education charter school that believes education should not just focus on preparing the student for college or a career. 麻豆官网 philosophy also focuses on preparing a student for life. Educators do this by helping students explore the lessons and truths passed down to us from scientists, philosophers, artists, and great thinkers throughout time from all over the world. Students incorporate the knowledge they glean from these many disciplines of learning to develop a genuinely organic and self-defined view on the planet, which they can use to become successful in tackling all hurdles life throws at them both professionally and personally. Education | Classical Education vs. STEM Traditionally, U.S. schools have used a liberal arts approach to learning that is based on a classical education foundation. Recently, because of our country’s drop in percentages of college graduates with technical degrees, a focus on STEM has begun to take hold. The intention behind STEM approaches is well-founded in need to increase the number of technically proficient graduates for our economy. However, this may come at the cost of a student fully prepared to confront all aspects of our society. Education at 麻豆官网 Educators at the classical education charter school, 麻豆官网, provide each student with a curriculum focused on providing pupils with the tools to make informed decisions about the world around them, no matter the subject. They teach their students how to think critically by using lessons and philosophies of the past and present in mathematics, philosophy, physical sciences, social sciences, the arts, literature, and foreign language. Students | Classical Education vs. STEM The opportunities available to students vary significantly based on the learning approach in which they have become immersed during their education. Students at 麻豆官网 Every year, nearly all of 麻豆官网 graduates proceed to college, many of whom start as sophomores or even juniors, thanks to the quantity of college-prep courses they have completed while receiving their classical education at 麻豆官网. The most defining aspect of the typical graduate of 麻豆官网 is that they have learned how to learn. Thanks to classical education, graduates possess the tools to overcome defeat, tackle intricate problems, and implement best study practices because of their experience at 麻豆官网. Each year, graduates of 麻豆官网 receive over 100,000 dollars in scholarships and other financial aid per student because of their preparedness and performance achieved during their elementary, middle school, and high school experience. College Readiness | Classical Education vs. STEM STEM students become graduates who are prepared to take on particular occupations in technological fields of work. Many STEM students enter the workforce directly, while others continue with higher education focused on more STEM areas of study. Students who attend classical education charter schools receive a curriculum focused heavily on Liberal Arts. Students receive exposure to a wider variety of subjects to include the arts and humanities. This exposure broadens the areas of opportunities available to them as young professionals

Vanguard’s Nique Clifford commits to University of Colorado basketball During the Vanguard boys basketball’s historic run to the state championship game last year, it became clear that Vanguard’s Dominique “Nique” Clifford was destined for Division I basketball. It was only a matter of where. Friday, Clifford announced his commitment to the University of Colorado through a two-part video series on Twitter. “I would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me,” Clifford said in his commitment video. “I could not have done it without the help and support from my mom, dad, grandparents, teachers, friends, coaches, teammates and trainers.” Since he was a kid Clifford had dreamed of playing basketball at UCLA, but when and offer didn’t come he chose the next best thing — to play the Bruins twice a year. “I think God has a plan for everyone so I think getting to play them is just as good — I’ll just have to show them what they missed,” Clifford said. He said he’s excited about the freedom of college life, and transitioning to a much bigger school and program than Class 3A Vanguard. “Basketball wise it’s going to be a lot different with the competition levels, but it’s been my goal all my life. I’ll be ready for it when the time comes,” Clifford said. His time might come earlier than typical recruits, as Clifford said CU coaches hopes he will have an immediate impact on the team as a freshman. “They see me playing combo guard and they honestly think I could take them to the next level as a program,” Clifford said. “Of course it all has to be earned, but it’s the big time and big goals for me so I’m on the grind to prove them right.” In three varsity seasons at Vanguard, Clifford has averaged 14.5 points per game, including a career-high double-double average of 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds as a junior. His junior season, in which he helped the Coursers to the Class 3A state championship game, was sparked by a 5-inch growth spurt in the off season. His height, 6 feet, 5 inches, quickness and flair made him one of the most dangerous shooting guards in the state. He has received 11 Division I offers, including from Stanford, Denver, Northern Colorado, Colorado State and Wyoming. He went on official visits to CU, CSU and Wyoming in the last month. Clifford said it was a touch decision between Wyoming, CSU, Stanford and CU, but chose to go on official visits at certain schools because of the connection he felt with the coaches. “All of the places I visited were super nice, but Colorado had the best campus, and on my visit I just felt at home,” Clifford said. “It really just hit different than other schools.” “What stands out most about Dominique is his personality,” said Vanguard coach Joe Wetters in the commitment video. “He’s a fearless leader and very intelligent on the basketball court. I think what separates him most is his ability as a lead guard to put himself in position to make the team better, and that’s what he’s good at.” Clifford is listed as a four-star recruit and ranked No. 83 nationally on 247 sports among the top 2020 basketball recruits.
