There are a variety of ways for students to begin earning college credits while still in high school, and there are plenty of benefits to doing so. The following is an overview of how college credits work in high school and some of the most common questions that parents and students have about them. What Are The Benefits Of Pursuing College Credits In High School? By pursuing college credits while still in high school, students give themselves a head start when they begin college. The more credits a student accrues in high school, the higher chance they have of being admitted to the college of their choice. Also, by taking on the extra challenge of earning college credits while still in high school, students can learn valuable life skills that will prepare them for their life ahead. Since the added challenge of pursuing college credits is something students must juggle alongside their normal high school classes, they will need to adopt more disciplined planning and time management habits while managing work-life balance. How Many College Credits Can You Earn In High School? It’s possible for a student to earn as many as 120 college credit hours before they graduate high school. However, this number is quite extreme and isn’t typical. To accrue as many college credits as possible and have the biggest head-start going into college, it’s recommended for students to take on as many AP classes as they can without getting overwhelmed. The reason for this is that the best colleges, such as Ivy League colleges, often require you to score well on at least 3 to 5 AP classes. While less selective schools require 2 to 3. Ways To Earn College Credits In High School There are a variety of ways to earn college credits in high school, including: Advanced Placement (AP) exams College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program Dual enrollment Summer or winter study programs Benefits of AP Classes One of the best ways for high school students to earn college credits is by getting good scores in their Advanced Placement (AP) class exams. AP classes are designed to give students an entry-level college experience while they’re still in high school, and the scores they get in these classes can play a significant role in whether they qualify for the college of their choice after graduation. Most colleges will give credits for AP exam scores of 4 or 5, and less rigorous ones may accept a score of 3, but generally not lower than that. AP classes are an important part of a high school student’s curriculum, and students who want to have the most options after graduation are advised to take them seriously and study hard for them. Classical Education vs. STEM

Classical Education

Each student’s educational journey rests on the instructional approach they receive, whether it is based on a classical education approach or one that is more narrowly focused. Two prevalent educational strategies in the United States today are STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Liberal Arts. Graduates of a Liberal Arts focused curriculum possess well-rounded knowledge in the subjects that reflect all aspects of our culture, past, and present. Graduates of a STEM approach possess a highly focused, integrated education in technology and the physical sciences. The choice between schools which focus on these two very different educational philosophies directly impacts the exposure and, thus, future career prospects for each student. Philosophy | Classical vs. STEM Liberal Arts study derived from classical education focuses on investigating concepts and issues that transcend the confines of any one discipline. Through the exploration of arts, humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences, students learn to interpret the world around them using a multi-faceted point of view. The STEM philosophy relies on its integrative approach to learning science, technology, engineering, and math that begins at a young age to prepare students for real-world application of the skills they have learned when they are ready to embark on their career paths. The difference between these two philosophies lies in the breadth of focus given to various disciplines of learning. STEM focuses more narrowly on areas relating to math and science. In contrast, the classical education approach widens the angle of purview. It concentrates on how disciplines such as philosophy, engineering, the arts, language, and science interconnect in the provision of knowledge. 麻豆官网 Philosophy 麻豆官网 is a classical education charter school that believes education should not just focus on preparing the student for college or a career. 麻豆官网 philosophy also focuses on preparing a student for life. Educators do this by helping students explore the lessons and truths passed down to us from scientists, philosophers, artists, and great thinkers throughout time from all over the world. Students incorporate the knowledge they glean from these many disciplines of learning to develop a genuinely organic and self-defined view on the planet, which they can use to become successful in tackling all hurdles life throws at them both professionally and personally. Education | Classical Education vs. STEM Traditionally, U.S. schools have used a liberal arts approach to learning that is based on a classical education foundation. Recently, because of our country’s drop in percentages of college graduates with technical degrees, a focus on STEM has begun to take hold. The intention behind STEM approaches is well-founded in need to increase the number of technically proficient graduates for our economy. However, this may come at the cost of a student fully prepared to confront all aspects of our society. Education at 麻豆官网 Educators at the classical education charter school, 麻豆官网, provide each student with a curriculum focused on providing pupils with the tools to make informed decisions about the world around them, no matter the subject. They teach their students how to think critically by using lessons and philosophies of the past and present in mathematics, philosophy, physical sciences, social sciences, the arts, literature, and foreign language. Students | Classical Education vs. STEM The opportunities available to students vary significantly based on the learning approach in which they have become immersed during their education. Students at 麻豆官网 Every year, nearly all of 麻豆官网 graduates proceed to college, many of whom start as sophomores or even juniors, thanks to the quantity of college-prep courses they have completed while receiving their classical education at 麻豆官网. The most defining aspect of the typical graduate of 麻豆官网 is that they have learned how to learn. Thanks to classical education, graduates possess the tools to overcome defeat, tackle intricate problems, and implement best study practices because of their experience at 麻豆官网. Each year, graduates of 麻豆官网 receive over 100,000 dollars in scholarships and other financial aid per student because of their preparedness and performance achieved during their elementary, middle school, and high school experience. College Readiness | Classical Education vs. STEM STEM students become graduates who are prepared to take on particular occupations in technological fields of work. Many STEM students enter the workforce directly, while others continue with higher education focused on more STEM areas of study. Students who attend classical education charter schools receive a curriculum focused heavily on Liberal Arts. Students receive exposure to a wider variety of subjects to include the arts and humanities. This exposure broadens the areas of opportunities available to them as young professionals

The Best Way to Learn Latin

Classical Education

Studying Latin sharpens students’ skills in memorization and critical and logical thinking, expands students’ understanding of the origins and workings of many languages, and serves as a gateway to the study of the culture and civilization of ancient Rome, the precepts and ideas of which form the foundation of Western civilization. In our Latin courses, students will master Latin vocabulary, grammar, and syntax while developing foundational translation skills through a study of textbook Latin excerpts adapted from Roman sources. Students will also explore topics in the history, literature, culture, and geography of ancient Rome. Benefits of Learning Latin as a Second Language Latin is the basis of all Romance languages, which are French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Learning Latin helps students solidify their understanding of English grammar, as 50% of English words have Latin roots. Professions in medicine, science, law, philosophy, literature, theology, and music require a significant amount of Latin vocabulary. Understanding Latin will assist students in the mastery of these fields. Latin’s interdisciplinary nature helps students understand how Classical Learning does occur in subject isolation. Instead, it is a reflection of the dependency all disciplines have with each other against the backdrop of history. Learning Latin is engaging, satisfying, and fun because it involves a great deal of critical thinking and decoding. Latin is a systematic language that applies to most other areas of study. Understanding Latin can improve a student’s score on the verbal portion of the SAT. Learn to Speak Latin At 麻豆官网, students begin Latin in grade seven with Latin 1A, then progress to Latin 1B in grade eight. This course progression continues in high school with Latin I through Latin V. Increased focus on Latin during high school compliments other academic subjects such as chemistry, physics, economics, mathematics, and art history, which all feature essential Latin vocabulary in their coursework. Learn To Read and Write Formal Latin Latin is alive and well in a multitude of scientific and academic fields around the world. Understanding the structure of Latin and possessing the capability to write in a second language opens many doors of exploration for a deeper understanding of the sciences, philosophy, literature, and music. Students at 麻豆官网 learn to read and write in Latin through a layered approach, learning the fundamentals of Latin at the junior high level, then building upon these fundamentals in more advanced, high school levels. Latin Language, Culture, & Student Immersion Students at 麻豆官网 will become familiar with the Latin language while simultaneously gaining an understanding of how Latin applies to nearly all facets of Classical Education. 麻豆官网 provides opportunities both within the academic curriculum and outside it via extracurricular activities and class trips.

TARC team dues and associated fundraising provide build supplies, electronics, and motors. Students new to model rocketry will be given supplies to build and fly two simple rockets. After these first two rockets, students will be responsible for purchasing their own model rocket kits and motors from local hobby shops or via mail order. Grade Levels Eligible Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to participate in TARC. Memberships Rocketry has two levels of membership. TARC Intended for experienced rocketeers who will be building and flying advanced model rocket designs using higher-power motors and on-board electronics to control the flight. Sport Model Rocketry Intended for beginner rocketeers who wish to build and fly model rocket kits without being part of the competition teams. Rocketry at 麻豆官网 Rocketry provides a wonderful opportunity for students interested in flight and engineering. Rocketry is mentally challenging, fun, and can be highlighted on a student’s college application. We have competed every year that the national finals has run. We have sent more teams to finals than any other program in the state over that time. Our school’s best finish was 5th in the nation in 2008. Recent achievements include: 2019 – We were one of two Colorado schools (one of three in all of the mountain west region) to make the 100-team cut from over 800 teams for the national finals. 2018 – We were one of three Colorado teams to compete in the national finals. We finished 13th in the nation and won a special award for “most innovative approach to mission” from Raytheon Corp. Two days later, he practiced with the Vanguard volleyball team and was starting at setter 24 hours later in its season-opening match. “It was crazy,â€ Fuqua said. “I’ve been playing volleyball for five years, so it wasn’t that difficult for me, but I would like to have had a little more of a break.â€ Brothers Carter and Decker Milroy are the other two Vanguard varsity basketball players who also play volleyball. Fuqua is hoping to play basketball in college. At last check, he was still receiving offers from several schools, mostly at the NAIA level. “It was awesome playing here,â€ Fuqua said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My teammates. My coaches. I was really in the spot I wanted to be. “We played with such heart. We came out of nowhere. My freshman year, we were awful, just above .500. And then my last three years, we just kept getting better.â€ Vanguard was 73-24 in Fuqua’s four years. His individual accomplishments are impressive by any standard. He ranks in the top 20 career in state history among all classifications in six categories: scoring (2,374 points, third), 3-pointers made (311, third), field goals made (816, sixth), scoring average (24.5, eighth), free throws made (431, 16th) and steals (219, 20th). He scored 30-plus points 21 times, and 40-plus twice, with a career-high of 44 against Buena Vista as a sophomore. In addition, he had 14 double-doubles and two triple-doubles. He once made 10 3-pointers in a game against Evangelical Christian Academy as a freshman, and nine 3-pointers against James Irwin as a sophomore. He started at Vanguard since his freshman year and averaged more than 30 minutes per game during four seasons. “It’s one of those things that when I look back on my high school basketball career, I will remember it for the rest of my life,â€ Fuqua said. “It’s cool that I’m in the top five all-time scoring in Colorado, and when I think about it now, it blows my mind. “I give the credit to my dad and the coaches who have taught me to play. I just take what I’ve learned and practice it a million times and get good at it.â€

Vanguard’s Nique Clifford commits to University of Colorado basketball During the Vanguard boys basketball’s historic run to the state championship game last year, it became clear that Vanguard’s Dominique “Nique” Clifford was destined for Division I basketball. It was only a matter of where. Friday, Clifford announced his commitment to the University of Colorado through a two-part video series on Twitter. “I would like to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me,” Clifford said in his commitment video. “I could not have done it without the help and support from my mom, dad, grandparents, teachers, friends, coaches, teammates and trainers.” Since he was a kid Clifford had dreamed of playing basketball at UCLA, but when and offer didn’t come he chose the next best thing — to play the Bruins twice a year. “I think God has a plan for everyone so I think getting to play them is just as good — I’ll just have to show them what they missed,” Clifford said. He said he’s excited about the freedom of college life, and transitioning to a much bigger school and program than Class 3A Vanguard. “Basketball wise it’s going to be a lot different with the competition levels, but it’s been my goal all my life. I’ll be ready for it when the time comes,” Clifford said. His time might come earlier than typical recruits, as Clifford said CU coaches hopes he will have an immediate impact on the team as a freshman. “They see me playing combo guard and they honestly think I could take them to the next level as a program,” Clifford said. “Of course it all has to be earned, but it’s the big time and big goals for me so I’m on the grind to prove them right.” In three varsity seasons at Vanguard, Clifford has averaged 14.5 points per game, including a career-high double-double average of 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds as a junior. His junior season, in which he helped the Coursers to the Class 3A state championship game, was sparked by a 5-inch growth spurt in the off season. His height, 6 feet, 5 inches, quickness and flair made him one of the most dangerous shooting guards in the state. He has received 11 Division I offers, including from Stanford, Denver, Northern Colorado, Colorado State and Wyoming. He went on official visits to CU, CSU and Wyoming in the last month. Clifford said it was a touch decision between Wyoming, CSU, Stanford and CU, but chose to go on official visits at certain schools because of the connection he felt with the coaches. “All of the places I visited were super nice, but Colorado had the best campus, and on my visit I just felt at home,” Clifford said. “It really just hit different than other schools.” “What stands out most about Dominique is his personality,” said Vanguard coach Joe Wetters in the commitment video. “He’s a fearless leader and very intelligent on the basketball court. I think what separates him most is his ability as a lead guard to put himself in position to make the team better, and that’s what he’s good at.” Clifford is listed as a four-star recruit and ranked No. 83 nationally on 247 sports among the top 2020 basketball recruits.

While academics are important, they make up only one part of a student’s resume. Extracurricular activities also play an important role in the development of a student’s academic career and personal growth. These activities are important for allowing students to develop their talents and skills, and to challenge themselves. We encourage Vanguard high school students to consider club participation as a way to not only explore their interests and hobbies and meet like-minded individuals, but also to discover their unlimited potential. 麻豆官网 strives to give students many opportunities to grow and learn through extracurricular activities, which is why they can participate and lead clubs during their daily Activity Period. Why is Club Participation Important? Participating in clubs has the potential to benefit students in many ways. Joining a club based on a hobby or career interest will introduce them to a variety of unique individuals who share similar interests and goals, thus broadening their social network. Club participation also gives students the chance to build valuable life skills such as teamwork, time management, and problem solving. Students can explore the fine arts through the Jazz Band, musicals, and plays. They will find clubs that support diversity, such as Allies (LGBTQ+) and the Multi-Cultural Club. Bibliophiles may be interested in the Book Club, while students who are passionate about environmental education will thrive in the HOPE (recycling) Club. Language enthusiasts will find Spanish, German, and Latin clubs. 麻豆官网 High School club list also includes a variety of clubs suited to unique hobbies, such as the popular Card, Dungeons and Dragons, Pop Culture, Trivia, and Star Wars clubs. Students who want to pursue potential career paths will appreciate the Student Government, Science Club, Service/Leadership Club, or the Future Healthcare Professionals Club. The club gives students the opportunity to learn about different career paths, diseases, and other topics relevant to the healthcare profession as a whole. The club’s official mission is: “To better the future of medicine through preemptive education and awareness, and to instill a lifelong passion for care and cooperation.” What Does a Typical Club Meeting Look Like?
